Tag Usage for IC Communities

This is the tag formatting and usage for the three main in-character game communities, fandomtownies, fandomhighdorms and fandomhigh.



All new tags are created by the admin team, but if you'd like a change to the tag assigned to your character, business, or class, just let us know, and we'll be happy to work with you on it.

The OOC communities - fandomhigh_ooc and fhplotterywheel - and assorted special-event IC communities are used much less frequently and are in much less danger of running up against Dreamwidth's tag limits, so the tags there have been left as they were in the early days of the game. The Big 3, though, get a lot of traffic, and over 10+ years have built up a lot of tags, so we've created a system that

* reduces duplication
* sorts tags by subject, making things easier to find
* minimizes extra typing where possible
* files seldom-used tags that belong to dropped characters on a separate page, maintaining the historical links but reducing the Dreamwidth tag totals

Tags and Symbols
!administrative: category (stuff like the discontinued tags post) !ccclass: class-name !club: club-name (reserves & other out-of-school groups) !communication (deliveries, announcements, public notices, etc.) !event: event-name (reunions, dances, bde-type plots, etc.) $business-name @location-name character-name To conserve tag space, all posts for a business location will share the same tag as long as the same/similar services are offered, even if the business name changes. The tag name can be updated if the new business-owner would like, but the old posts will be updated to the new name as well.	!administrative: category !club: club-name !communication !event: event-name $oopsbusiness (Because oops happened.) @location-name ^cabin-name (It's totally a tiny roof. Or a tent. Yes.) character-name	!administrative (Archival posts from before What Gets Posted Where was standardized. Nowadays, all OOC admin posts go in fandomhigh_ooc or fhplotterywheel, with a few limited exceptions.) !applications (OOC announcements that applications are open are posted in the fandomhigh comm so that non-players who might be following the game will see the post.) !club: club-name !communication !communication: fandom hightimes (The school newspaper, currently defunct, has a sub-tag. All other communication types go under the general tag.) !event: event-name class-name The school comm doesn't use character tags: because of the sheer volume of characters appearing in that comm location tags: because the class, club, communication or event is the most important thing about a post. If one of those doesn't apply, the post belongs somewhere else, even if the physical location happens to be in the school.
