Vail Ski Resort | Sunday Morning, 10/17

The Fandomites' last morning in Vail dawned cool and clear, the resort warm enough to get by with a light jacket, the slopes above frosty and crisp.

The portal back to Fandom would arrive after lunch, so now was time for packing, last-minute souvenir-shopping, or one final lift up the mountain to the wonderful land of snow-sports.

Or alternatively, freaking the heck out in your hotel room because Fandom knows no boundaries of distance or decency when it comes to attacking its current and former residents in their sleep to leave ladybits where manbits used to be, and manbits where... you get the picture.

So might the maid, if you forgot to leave the Do Not Disturb sign out.

Room 204

Faramir was still half asleep when he sat at the edge of his bed. He leaned his elbows on his knees, waiting to fully wake up, when something struck him as odd.

One look down and... Very odd. Perhaps he was not fully awake yet.

He got up and quietly padded to the bathroom as to not wake up his roommate, switched on the light and blinked at his reflection in the mirror.

And here he was thinking the oddness would only happen in Fandom.

Elphaba herself groggily woke up in her bed, and found herself a little confused. Her bedclothes did not fit her properly, and when she looked at her arms... was that hair?

She raised her hands to her face and felt the prickle of adolescent stubble. Elphaba frowned and sighed.

"I do not think this is funny," she declared out loud.

Faramir had showered (somehow it had taken much longer than usual) in the meanwhile and changed into a fresh tunic. He was combing through his hair when he heard noise coming from the room, the voice was different than what he'd be expecting and he opened the door to see what was happening.

"It is not, but I am glad that I am not the only one to be affected," he said.

Elphaba herself jerked slightly back (as much as one could, while still in bed) at seeing the strange girl in the bathroom doorway. But then she was clever enough to put two and two together. "I thought this sort of thing only happened on the island," she said, feeling as if though she might spend the entire day in this bed with a book, now.

"Yes, those were my thoughts as well," Faramir said wryly and he moved towards his pack. He'd already put everything in it the evening before, so he was certain he still had one spare clean tunic and pants.

"I believe the island is proving us wrong in thinking so."

"How wonderful," Elphaba said, sitting up a bit in the bed. A nightdress really didn't look flattering on her new masculine frame, and that was a bit obvious as the sheets fell down to settle at her waist.

"Though you do look rather pretty, if that's any consolation," she added.

She wasn't going to ask how she looked.

Which was perhaps good as Faramir did not really turn poetic over men. (Except if they were as heroic as his brother, perhaps.)

Faramir laughed at the compliment, but the strange sound of his voice made him stop abruptly.

"It is very strange to find oneself attractive," he admitted. He found the clean clothes and placed them on the foot end of her bed. "I did not use these so you are welcome to them if you have need for it."

Elphaba nodded and gave Faramir a little smile. "Thank you," she said. "I suppose my clothes wouldn't fit properly, or perhaps even get me stared at more than normal."

"I suppose it also a small consolation we'll soon be returning to the island, as well."

For her, she'd been looking forward to returning for the past several days.

"My clothes have been earning me quite some strange looks lately," he admitted, "but perhaps they are used to it by now."

He nodded a little. "Yes, perhaps. I admit that I will miss these mountains."

"They have?" Elphaba said, tilting her head. "I have no idea why. They are rather pleasant, I'd say. Simple and dignified."

She shrugged. "I don't understand much about this world, I'm afraid."

Sometimes, she longed for Oz, where things seemed so much simpler.

"I agree, and I would not know where to start if I were to try buying clothes that would fit in better here," he said as he sat down on the edge of the bed. It did not change that he was swimming in his clothes now and tried folding up the sleeves to free his hands.

"This world does take a while to adjust to, but it remains interesting."

"Oh, I would never call it uninteresting," Elphaba said, standing up from the bed and stretching her arms and legs.

Which promptly tore a new seam along the side of her bed clothes, along the leg.

"Oh, fiddlesticks," she said, with a frown. "Do you suppose my clothes might fit you better, now?" It seemed the reasonable thing to offer, though she was having trouble judging how big Faramir was compared to how she normally was, given her own size difference.

"Perhaps," he said, but women's clothes seemed so strange and he shook his head. "You are kind to offer, but I think I shall keep to my clothes for now as to not joss later threads. Hopefully this will not last too long."

"The offer stands," Elphaba said. "Even when we are back at the school. Though hopefully this... condition won't last that long."

"I thank you," Faramir smiled at her. "I believe that it is commonly thought that most such manners last a weekend or a day, so hopefully we will be back to normal tomorrow."

He paused. "Of course, I have never heard that it could happen when we were off the island."

Re: Room 204

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Let's not dwell on it," Elphaba decided. "Worrying about how long this lasts will only lead to needless fretting. And fretting never did anyone any good."

Re: Room 204

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"You speak truth," Faramir agreed, "and it is far too early to do any worrying now. Not without some food first."

Re: Room 204

Elphaba nodded. "A full stomach often makes many things easier to take," she said. "Thank you again."

"You are welcome," Faramir waved off the thanks. "Perhaps I can find out if others are having the same... difficulties as us."
