The Fandomites' last morning in Vail dawned cool and clear, the resort warm enough to get by with a light jacket, the slopes above frosty and crisp.

The portal back to Fandom would arrive after lunch, so now was time for packing, last-minute souvenir-shopping, or one final lift up the mountain to the wonderful land of snow-sports.

Or alternatively, freaking the heck out in your hotel room because Fandom knows no boundaries of distance or decency when it comes to attacking its current and former residents in their sleep to leave ladybits where manbits used to be, and manbits where... you get the picture.

So might the maid, if you forgot to leave the Do Not Disturb sign out.

Great. Being a male was now even worse.

Karla was just going to boggle at Ben a minute. "It does?!" she asked, horrified. "Just...stays like this? My Healing classes never covered anything like this."

Possibly because it was completely normal, Karla. "For how long? When will it go away? Is there a time limit?"

"I've never timed it," Ben said, blushing even harder. "I've just kind of...dealt with it."

Oh, please, please, please don't ask how.

Ben. This was Karla. When had she ever not been difficult.

"How?!"

Ben hated everything. Everything.

He mumbled something under his breath, hoping Karla had picked up the gist of it.

Since it hadn't really been loud enough to hear, well, wishful thinking there, Ben.

"I don't read lips, Ben," Karla said, impatiently.

"I should make you ask Warren," Ben sulked. "Or Ender." But then he leaned in--yes, still blushing--and explained exactly what he'd been talking about.

"I can't ask Warren," Karla said, also sulking. "I don't want to point and say, 'hey, no offense, but this isn't actually for you--'"

Further conversation was cut off abruptly as Ben explained exactly how dealing was achieved. Possibly because her jaw was hanging far too low to actually use to make words.

"Too much information?" Ben replied faintly.

Karla had brought her hand up to cover her face a little, whether she was trying to hide from Ben or the information or whatever was unclear.

"I...don't know how to do that," she replied.

Again. They had never studied this in the coven!

"I'm not doing it for you," Ben declared firmly.

There was going to be a little more gaping and strangled fish noises. "Not asking! Not asking!"

Well, not for that anyway. Maybe she could ask for pointers?

Glancing at Ben, Karla rather thought that she'd asked enough questions for one day.

Unless she was interested in discovering if someone could actually die of embarrassment, probably.

"Want to use the bathroom?" he offered.

Because that's not weird.

"I...think this is something I can figure out in my own bathroom," she said hastily. "In my own room. Locked away from the world. Behind as many shields as I can create."

Being a male was awful.

"Thanks, Ben." It needed to be said. "You're a good friend."

He smiled. "I try. And really, it's not, you know, that big a hardship."

Thanks for sharing, Ben.

"Just because you don't know how much better it is being a female," Karla grumbled.

Riiiiiiight. Because being a female came with no associated problems ever.

"At least I didn't need a sedative this time." It was like progress?

Ben waved his hands down at his new body. "Um, hello? I wouldn't jump straight to better here."

Karla kept her eyes firmly on Ben's. "There are several comments I could make to that. I'm being polite and a good friend here and not actually saying them."

Ben stuck his tongue out at her. "Fine."

Karla pouted. The stubble didn't help that become a more attractive expression. "Why now?" she ~~whined~~ whined.

"Being a girl isn't really a picnic," he said. "I'm short and top-heavy."

"Show off," Karla grumbled.

"For me anything would feel top-heavy," Ben said, trying to fix things.

"You didn't need to get quite so much," Karla informed him. "It's just unfair is what it is."

"I'll take it up with whatever it was that turned me into a girl," Ben retorted.

Hey, at this point, Karla's problem might take care of itself.
