Vail Ski Resort | Sunday Morning, 10/17

The Fandomites' last morning in Vail dawned cool and clear, the resort warm enough to get by with a light jacket, the slopes above frosty and crisp.

The portal back to Fandom would arrive after lunch, so now was time for packing, last-minute souvenir-shopping, or one final lift up the mountain to the wonderful land of snow-sports.

Or alternatively, freaking the heck out in your hotel room because Fandom knows no boundaries of distance or decency when it comes to attacking its current and former residents in their sleep to leave ladybits where manbits used to be, and manbits where... you get the picture.

So might the maid, if you forgot to leave the Do Not Disturb sign out.

Bruce figured that deduction proved he was completely worthy of his TAship in Holmes' class. "Other than that?" Bruce asked. "Just fine. But the gender change is a big thing to ignore for that question."

"You do have a point there," Ariel allowed. "So how would it be with the gender change in mind?"

"It could be worse," Bruce mused. "I went out early and managed to pick up some clothes that fit. Now I'll be prepared in case this ever happens again."

Yes, he was assuming everything would be back to normal tomorrow.

"How are you holding up?"

"It's...different," Ariel offered, feeling that was being very nice about it.

She felt she'd worked fairly hard to deserve her legs and use them, and now she was left feeling awkward whenever she moved. She kept telling herself that, as someone who went from having a fin to being bipedal, adapting should be easy, but...

"And hopefully temporary."

"I think this kind of thing has happened before. It should go back to normal after the weekend," Bruce said. "I just wish it had the decency to wait until we were actually on the island."

"I know," Ariel agreed with a slight wilt of pain. "I bought the cutest dress ever to wear for the trip home today!"

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"You could still wear it. It would just have a different impact than what you were expecting," Bruce pointed out. Smartass.

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ariel really should have expected that.

"Somehow," she said, "I don't think it's going to look nearly as cute."

But Bruce could wear it. It would look great on him right now, but she was pretty certain their sort-of relationship was not entirely at the sharing clothes level yet, especially if it lead her to thinking how it wasn't fair that she wasn't nearly as handsome as Bruce was pretty.

"Probably not," Bruce said. "But at least you have pants that fit. That has to count for something."

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"There is that," Ariel agreed. "I'm still about the same size as I was yesterday."

In most areas, anyway. As far as the others, well, just thinking about it was leaving Ariel's face going red again.

"I'm beginning to think you may die of embarrassment before we even get back," Bruce said. "If it helps, it does look like it happened to nearly everyone."

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It wasn't that obvious, was it?

...yeah, she reasoned, it probably was. She gave a faint smile, not about ready to apologize for liking being a girl, thank you very much. She might not have been satisfied with being a mermaid, but being a girl was something she'd always been certain about.

"It does help," she said. "I mean, even you, right? So at least I'm in good company."

"That's the spirit," Bruce said. "And this way you get to see the world from a slightly different perspective. You can learn a lot from something like that."

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like how tightie whities make so much more sense now?" Ariel asked, somewhat pointedly, because a slightly different perspective was certainly one way to put it.

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"You didn't think they made sense before?" Bruce - who believed in briefs over boxers - asked.

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"Understanding a concept and actually experience it are very different, illuminating things."

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well said," Bruce said. And then, because it had been in the back of his head, he had to ask, "Are you actually wearing briefs now, or are you still wearing what you brought?"

Look, it had to be asked.

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
And that was the terrible about today. Usually, Ariel could have played that off with a very coy answer, especially with Bruce, but currently, that was just...awkward.

On the other hand, she couldn't think of anything else to respond with, so she just went with the grin, the lifted eyebrow, and the, "Would you like to know?"

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Bruce rested a hand on his chin - which was rather less imposing than he was used to, but he felt it worked well enough with the rest of his current face - as he gave the question some thought. "You don't pull that off nearly as well when you're a guy. But I am curious, so yes."

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well," Ariel admitted, "I think, if I wasn't a guy, I would have actually offered to show you, but I am a guy, and if I wasn't a guy, you probably wouldn't have asked, so the whole thing left me not really knowing which way to go with that."

Pause.

"I'm still not telling you."

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He had a pretty good guess. "Well, if you want to borrow any boy underwear, I still have some clean pairs that might be a little more comfortable if you're stuck with your own."

Yes, he was offering relative comfort to get a possible answer. He was mean like that.

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait. Did this mean that, apparently, they were at a point in their relationship where they should be comfortable wearing each other's clothes? Clothes, she thought, because she couldn't actually fathom that couples got to the point of comfortably sharing underwear. It just wasn't something that would ever come up in a mermaid relationship.

Gosh. Switching genders complicated things so much.

"I...think I'm good," Ariel decided after eying Bruce a little.

"Um," she added, since now she felt obligated to reciprocate, "are you...okay with everything...in that department, too?"

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I went shopping. I'm good," Bruce said simply. Bruce Wayne prepared for EVERYTHING.

He was even wearing a bra now.

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, but was it made of seashells?

"I would have done that, but I spent all my shopping money on cute dresses..."

OH THE IRONY.

Re: Hotel Lobby

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2010-10-17 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
So she was still wearing her underwear! Well, that was answered. He was satisfied. "Funny how that works out," Bruce said. "If you really need something that fits a little better right now, I can pay for it. There's no need to suffer."
