Vail Ski Resort | Sunday Morning, 10/17

The Fandomites' last morning in Vail dawned cool and clear, the resort warm enough to get by with a light jacket, the slopes above frosty and crisp.

The portal back to Fandom would arrive after lunch, so now was time for packing, last-minute souvenir-shopping, or one final lift up the mountain to the wonderful land of snow-sports.

Or alternatively, freaking the heck out in your hotel room because Fandom knows no boundaries of distance or decency when it comes to attacking its current and former residents in their sleep to leave ladybits where manbits used to be, and manbits where... you get the picture.

So might the maid, if you forgot to leave the Do Not Disturb sign out.

"It hates us," Jaina said. "This stuff should not be allowed to follow us around. It's just not right."

She paused. "Actually, this stuff should not be allowed to happen at all."

John pulled himself up to hug his pillow. "Now you just have to make it stop. Get to that, I'll nap."

"You can really nap like this?" Jaina was still too annoyed to even consider that.

"Jaina, I was like this for a week in college," he reminded her. "It's annoying, but shit, I'm just glad I wasn't on Atlantis when it happened. Also? It's either sleep more or pack."

"Oh, so I don't have to raid your packed bags for clothes when I need to get dressed then. Good to know." Yes, she had decided to steal his clothes.

That got John's attention. "Hey! No stealing my stuff. Deal with your own."

"I seem to remember you getting a lot of use out of my clothing for that week," Jaina pointed out. And he'd stretched out some of her shirts. Sigh. "It's not stealing, it's borrowing."

"No way, you'll wreck my shirts with those shoulders," he declared, sitting up to stop Jaina as needed.

"I think I'm still smaller than you," Jaina protested, sitting up, too. She actually didn't know, but she'd still been on the small side last time she'd turned into a guy. The Y chromosome helped a little, but she'd still gotten stuck with the short genes. Thanks, Leia.

John had the gift of being long and slender regardless of whether he was male or female. "Shorter," he scoffed, flipping his hair and glancing down because he could.

"Fine, shorter. I still won't be stretching out your stuff," Jaina said. "My other option is to walk around shirtless in Colorado while it's snowing while I try to find clothes."

John smirked just a little at that idea. "Now that sounds like a plan."

"What have I told you about flirting with me when we're both the wrong gender?" Jaina teased.

"Always do it." She'd never told him anything.

"I really said that?" She knew she'd never said anything.

"You like it when I flirt with you. It's when I flirt with others that you make faces." Something about being a girl made John willing to share.

It did kind of surprise her that he'd brought that up, but it wasn't like she hadn't copped to some jealousy. "I grumble, too."

"Do you?" And really, John thought perhaps he should take advantage of the conversation and try to slide up closer. "I missed that part."

"I don't do that part in front of you," she said, and though she noticed him moving closer, she didn't pull away. She was maybe a little curious what he might do.

What he might do was actually a bold attempt to climb on top of her. "What else don't you do in front of me?"

Believe it or not, she hadn't expected him to do that. And after a few gender switches already, Jaina wasn't nearly as self-conscious as she used to be. Well, except for having parts she wasn't used to having. Which may have been why she kept her hands off of him for the moment, again to see the reaction.

"You think I'm going to tell you that?" she asked, teasing.

"No, because we're secretive people," John answered, settling comfortably on top of Jaina and inspecting the line of her shoulders with his fingertips.

"I don't have a lot of secrets from you," Jaina pointed out, daring to move her hands to his hips. And it was technically true. She had things she hadn't told him, but there wasn't much she actively tried to keep from him.

"But some?" Now John was really interested, his hands going into her hair to feel the difference. "I admit it, I'm curious."

"You don't want to hear about it," she assured him, fingers rubbing lightly over his sides. Most of what she deliberately kept to herself had to do with how she felt about him and things related to that, and that was kind of a big subject. "And the other stuff just hasn't come up in conversation."
